Out-of-Province Student Association
Moving to a new province for university is an exciting step, but it can also bring challenges as you adjust to a new city, campus, and community. The Out-of-Province Student Association (OPSA) is designed to help students feel at home by fostering meaningful connections and providing opportunities to build a strong network.
About OPSA
OPSA is a unique community of Canadian students from beyond Ontario's borders. The group provides both transitional and ongoing academic and social support for out of province students attending Western University.
Founded by two students from Newfoundland and Alberta, the group is the first of its kind with the goal of helping students succeed in University. Together with the department of Transition, Leadership & Enrichment, OPSA aims to make these students feel at home at Western and provide them access to additional resources in order to succeed and make the most of their university experience.
Through a variety of social and academic events, the program helps ease the transition to life at Western and in London.
First Year Committee
OPSA's First Year Committee gives first-year out-of-province students the chance to get involved in the association from the start of their time at Western. The committee is made up of First Year Representatives, who rotate through OPSA's portfolios to learn how the association operates and to support its initiatives.
First Year Representatives advocate for the needs of out-of-province students, gain leadership experience, and build connections with other students who have moved to Western from outside Ontario. The role requires a commitment of approximately 1–2 hours per week.
